Revolut (2,000 engineers) revealed at the AI Engineer NYC conference that it moved from Gemini/Claude Code to a self-hosted GLM 5.1, paying 90% less.
Per Revolut's internal chart (self-reported by David Abitbol): with Gemini in early 2025 it saw 20% coding-time and 10% lead-time improvements; after switching to self-hosted GLM 5.1 in April 2026, those figures rose to 60% coding-time and 70% lead-time gains. The poster expects more resource-rich companies to follow this self-hosting path.
