Alibaba's RecRSI uses LLM mechanism hypotheses to discover recommenders, +8.48% NDCG@5
_reachsumit · x · 2026-11-04
Alibaba presents RecRSI, an LLM-based research framework that organizes recommender algorithm discovery around mechanism hypotheses—each linking a proposed mechanism change to a reference design, rationale, and expected observation. MechSpace derives implementable primitives and composition rules; Research Line develops and tests hypotheses; Mechanism Feedback carries outcomes and design context into subsequent research. Across four initial recommenders and four datasets, it yields average relative gains of 8.48% NDCG@5 and 6.88% HR@5 over the initial algorithms, and 2.60%/2.20% over the strongest competing result. Code is open-sourced.
