Cambridge's David Krueger: A global AI pause needs coordination, not trust
DavidSKrueger · x · 2026-11-04
Cambridge AI safety researcher David Krueger argues that an international pause on frontier AI would require the US and China to coordinate, possibly even cooperate — but not to trust each other, because arrangements can be verified. Distinguishing these three concepts matters: pessimism about US–China distrust conflates trust with verifiable commitments, and verification mechanisms (e.g. compute monitoring) could underpin international AI governance agreements between rivals.
