STOC Gossip: One Paper Claims P=NP, Another Claims P≠NP — Both Can't Be Right
thomasahle · x · 2026-11-04
Gautam Kamath shares amusing stats from this year's STOC submissions:
- Paper 488 claims to prove P = NP; Paper 872 claims to prove P ≠ NP — at least one is wrong (his wager: both).
- 339 submissions are single-author, from 286 authors; about half of these authors have never published at STOC/FOCS/SODA before.
- A commenter quips that next year all STOC papers should be formalized in Lean.
