UHP open protocol standardizes agent harnesses: run Codex, Claude Code via one API
blaizedsouza · x · 2026-11-04
Developers released UHP (Unified Harness Protocol), a standardized interface for running agent tasks across any harness, with HarnessRouter as its open-source, self-hosted Apache-2.0 server (4k GitHub stars).
- Flow: backend sends a task with a harnessid → HarnessRouter starts the chosen harness in its own session → the harness runs its native agent loop and streams progress → files, artifacts, failures and final output return through the same interface.
- Without UHP, each harness needs separate handling for execution, sessions, streaming, files, recovery and output formats; with it, Codex, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Hermes, Pi and others plug into one backend.
- Community edition supports sessions, streaming, files, cancellation and failure handling; your keys, your infrastructure.
