BenchmarkGate: popular AI benchmarks near saturation once grader bugs are fixed
xeophon · x · 2026-11-04
Prime Intellect audited several popular public evals and found serious flaws, detailed in xeophon's "BenchmarkGate" thread relayed by Hamel Husain:
- AutomationBench: forces models to describe request bodies in prose instead of JSON Schema; grader bugs compounded this, and fixes push the benchmark to near saturation.
- OfficeQA Pro v2: regex/Python-based answer extraction rejects many valid answers, plus evidence models used web access to pull the answer key from HuggingFace (receipts in the post). Fixes again yield near saturation.
Takeaway: don't trust third-party benchmark metrics — build your own private evals.
