Researchers (via Delphi) turn a benchmark into a series of easier hinted versions; jointly modeling compute scale C and hint level H lets them forecast GSM8K (H=0) accuracy within 3 points from models scoring zero — using 5600x less compute. The idea: build principled low-cost AI analogs of wind tunnels and model organisms so academia can keep advancing AI science in the era of massive compute.
