Menlo Ventures' "2026: The State of Enterprise AI" report shows:
- Enterprise AI deployment spend surged from $33B (2025) to $177B by Sept 2026—5.4x growth, now over 30% of public cloud revenue. Every $1 of model-building spend generates $1.70 in deployment revenue.
- Agents drove it: OpenRouter agent traffic overtook human traffic in February, then grew 37x (vs 5x for humans), reaching 80% of tokens (131T weekly).
- Frontier labs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) captured 69% of deployment dollars ($123B). Anthropic's enterprise API share rose 40%→55%, OpenAI 27%→31%, Google fell 21%→9%.
- Capability commands premium: frontier model spend share hit 63%; popular models shifted to pricier Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra.
- Coding ($34.0B) and chatbots make up 76% of the $77.3B app market; Claude Code + Codex hold $24B (70%) of coding.
- Open-source: 19% of tokens but 4% of spend; Chinese models take 89% of open-source spend, led by Kimi at 61%.
