Eric Topol flags Utah's consumer health AI pilots: six companies, almost no peer review
EricTopol · x · 2026-11-04
Eric Topol says Utah is far ahead of the country in approving consumer health AI pilots—but none of the companies have published peer-reviewed papers, and one (Nolla) sells its own proprietary products as part of its "end-to-end" AI healthcare.
Per the accompanying table: doctronic (192 prescription renewals, preprint only), Nolla (skin dx and photo-to-Rx, sells proprietary products, no papers), august.ai (96 renewals expanding to 148), EXPECT (pelvic floor PT), elizachat (mental health), and Legion Health (psychiatry refills—the only one with a peer-reviewed paper). Topol questions the evidence-free fast-track approval approach.
