Researcher unveils Telocracy, a governance framework he claims can handle powerful AI
edelwax · x · 2026-11-04
Researcher edelwax published a long-form essay proposing Telocracy, a framework for why social systems diverge from their purpose — an obsession dating back to a high-school conversation where he realized teachers were just as oppressed by school bureaucracy as students, with no one actually in charge or benefiting. After a year of conversations with legal theorists, philosophers, AI policy researchers and economists, he lays out the proposal and argues Telocracy is also a kind of society that could deal well with powerful AI, speaking directly to the gradual disempowerment problem. Ryan Lowe amplified it, joking that edelwax "wants you to fight him (with arguments)" if you disagree.
