ParallACT benchmark shows multi-agent communication barely helps: 16%→32% at 2.23x token cost
EliasEskin · x · 2026-11-04
As more developers delegate to agents on shared codebases, coordinating without a central planner becomes a real problem. The ParallACT benchmark isolates it and measures which coordination strategies work and at what cost.
Key findings:
- Simply telling an agent a peer exists barely helps (Opus: 16% → 26%).
- The best messaging modality lifts contradictory-task success to 32%, but costs 2.23x the oracle's tokens.
- Analysis: agents know what to say, but not when to listen.
Multi-agent communication alone doesn't fix coordination — listening timing, not expressiveness, is the bottleneck.
