Ryan-Rhys announced he has joined the Fields Model Initiative, a non-profit building open LLMs for mathematics, as Director of ML Research and Partnerships.
- Its first model, FM-Pochi-32B, claims a Bronze medal at IMO 2026 — billed as the first fully open-source LLM to medal, with open weights, checkpoints, training data, code, reasoning traces and grading, all fully reproducible; it was trained by community volunteers on a small compute footprint from Japan's NII and presented at AITP26.
- Everything is released under open licences (Apache 2.0, MIT, CC BY 4.0) with documented training provenance.
- The initiative supports the Leiden Declaration on AI and Mathematics and offers occasional compute grants.
