Site hit by Google manual action never regains ChatGPT citations, data shows

SEO expert Lily Ray shares a cautionary case: a site received a Google manual action on its green folder in May, then republished the same content in a purple folder — "sorta working, but probably not for long." Ahrefs ChatGPT citation data shows the site never got its AI citations back anywhere near pre-penalty levels on either folder (blue line crashed from 100 to near zero; the new folder's orange line stayed flat). Key takeaway: AI-search visibility is highly sensitive to penalties and content moves, and switching folders won't recover it.
