The AI buildout hits a capital wall: CoreWeave bonds at 79 cents, OpenAI's $30B round shrinks to $20B

A new UncoverAlpha analysis argues the AI buildout's binding constraint has shifted from physical inputs (GPUs, HBM, power) to capital. Late-October signals: CoreWeave fell 15% in a day with 2031 notes trading at 79 cents on the dollar; Meta launched a $97.5B equity raise; Anthropic filed an S-1 targeting $100B+; Microsoft sold $25B of bonds (first USD deal since 2017) drawing $115B in orders; OpenAI reportedly attracted only $11B of interest for a planned $30B round, cutting the target to $20B and turning to family offices.
The key distinction: hyperscalers still generate hundreds of billions in operating cash flow and borrow near Treasury spreads — what's running out is other people's money, the external debt and equity funding everything outside their balance sheets. The author shares a capital-constrained 2027 capex model by industry, expecting a slower, more selective, more concentrated cycle.
