Three AI-native firms are circling Weil's assets; could an MSO rebuild it?

As Weil Gotshal unravels, the author proposes that instead of a fire sale, remaining partners continue as a smaller lawyer-owned firm while an investor capitalizes a separate MSO to acquire the brand, technology and operating infrastructure, and build AI-enabled legal workflows.
Three AI-native firms are reportedly bidding: Crosby wants internal data, trademarks and brand rights plus Weil lawyers; Vetta targets precedents, playbooks and KM infrastructure; Scissero has bid on technology and data, potentially including DealVision360.
The Charlesbank–WSHB deal offers a parallel: an investor-backed MSO explicitly housing IP and nonlegal operations with heavy AI integration. Ex-partner Ramona Nee, who worked on that deal, is heading to Kirkland, which is making a huge AI bet. The bigger question: when a great firm loses its rainmakers, can new legal business models extract exponential value from what remains?
