Q-CTRL announced that its modular fault-tolerant architecture for quantum computers has been published in New Journal of Physics (vol. 28, no. 11, 2026). The paper, "Heterogeneous architectures enable a reduction in physical qubit requirements for fault-tolerant quantum computing under detailed accounting", borrows lessons from conventional processor design.
Under detailed accounting, the heterogeneous architecture reduces the number of physical qubits required for fault-tolerant quantum computing. Authors include Pranav S. Mundada, Michael J. Biercuk, Yuval Baum and Michael Hush; the paper is open access with a 2-minute video abstract.
