Google Tests Removing AI Mode Button From Search Bar for Some Users
lilyraynyc · x · 2026-11-03
Per Search Engine Roundtable, Google appears to be testing removal of the AI Mode button from the search bar. User Len Raleigh spotted it missing in incognito/Chrome, though it remained on his other machines and sessions—suggesting a small-scale A/B test.
- The AI Mode button was added to the search bar in May 2025 and has since been placed across many entry points.
- Barry Schwartz couldn't replicate the removal but notes Google routinely runs such tests on tiny user subsets to compare behavior data against the majority.
