Claude spots two broken EDID bytes in seconds after hours of failed monitor debugging
KrydanX · reddit · 2026-11-03
A Reddit user's external monitor broke on a MacBook Pro M4 after upgrading to macOS 27 — not recognized, wrong settings, mirroring a quarter of the screen — despite hours of resets, BetterDisplay, and deleted color profiles. His wife's M3 worked fine. Claude couldn't fix it at first either, but once the user shared logs and screenshots, Claude immediately identified two broken bytes in the monitor's EDID data (old macOS tolerated them; the new one didn't) and generated a working EDID binary profile within ten seconds. The author notes Apple support would likely have just suggested buying a new monitor.
