UK AISI spent just £3.34M on compute in 2025-26; researcher says it needs 1000x

UK AI Safety Institute (AISI) spent only £3.34 million on compute in the 2025-26 financial year. AI safety researcher Haydn Belfield calls these "rookie numbers" and argues compute needs to scale 1000x, since "swarm scaling is real" — multi-agent parallel inference will sharply raise the compute demands of safety evaluations.
