Vapor-cell atomic E-field sensor hits 0.2 mV/m/√Hz in 11 mm³, no electrodes

arXiv paper 2603.23751 (Damitz, Burns, Jau) reports major improvements to a quasi-DC vapor-cell atomic electrometer: with only 11 mm³ of active volume, it achieves an E-field noise floor of 0.2–7.7 mV/m/√Hz over 1–100 Hz. The bare vapor cell uses no metal parts or electrodes, minimizing field distortion for high spatial resolution; the Rydberg state is optically excited and read out for simplicity and miniaturization. Applications include contact-free electronics diagnostics, SLF-band communications, proximity detection, and bioscience/geoscience research.
