OpenAI quadruples critical bug bounties to $172,000 and brings outside red team to attack its own defenses
OpenAI · x · 2026-11-03
OpenAI announced two security moves:
- External red-teaming partnership: Cathedral Systems researchers will join OpenAI's next internal security sprint, using OpenAI's models alongside internal teams to probe its defenses, on the premise that as AI gets better at finding vulnerabilities, defenders must deploy it before attackers do.
- Raised bug bounty: rewards for critical findings more than quadrupled, with exceptional findings eligible for up to $172,000 including bonuses.
OpenAI says it will keep hardening its own systems with its models and expanding access for trusted defenders.
