Runway CEO: From 128px Film to Real-Time World Models Where Everything Is Simulated
AI Engineer · youtube · 2026-11-03
At the AI Engineer summit, Runway co-founder and CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela traces video generation's evolution and what comes next:
- Runway's first AI film (2019) was 128×128 pixels; today generated video is indistinguishable from real footage.
- Video generation is next-frame prediction at scale, through which models learn physics, object permanence, and how the world works.
- Making those models real-time and interactive points to world interface models and robotics; he demos Continuum, an early prototype where anything on your screen becomes live, interactive video.
- Also covers visual thinking for coding agents and the thesis that everything will be simulated.
