Purdue professor says arXiv banned him a year over 'hallucinated references' that weren't

RexDouglass mocks arXiv's policy of issuing long bans based on a single "cargo cult proxy measure" — alleged hallucinated citations in a bibliography — arguing nobody would design such a system deliberately.
The screenshot shows Purdue ECE assistant professor James (Jamie) Davis on LinkedIn: his arXiv account was suspended for a year over "hallucinated references" — in reality he merely abbreviated journal names (e.g. ACM Transactions on... to 'TOSEM') to meet a bibliography page limit, and none of his references were fake. He got no clarification, no appeal process, and no statement of the specific problem, so he is quitting arXiv in favor of his own site and Purdue ePubs.
