Agentic payments winners will create value, not build payment products, argues exec

Brendan Ryan argues most "agentic payments" discussions miss the point by treating payments as a product rather than a secondary consequence of value exchange. His thesis rests on four beliefs: AI systems do value-creating work, that impact will grow, payments merely express value exchange, and payment instruments will evolve while the core principle stays. Winners, he says, will be those focused on providing value to others — not those making it about payments themselves.
