Researchers at SEO firm RESONEO have identified 120 twiddlers in Google Search — small programs that rework results between ranking and display, boosting, demoting, filtering or spacing out same-site results. A 2018 internal document counted 65+ for web search alone.
Key findings:
- The 120 twiddlers span web, images and video; 111 names are exclusive to this research
- They include E-E-A-T expertise, topic authority, and a filter still named after Bard
- Also revealed: the plan of searches to run for a question, the basis of AI Mode's fan-out
This is part 6 of RESONEO's "Understanding Google" series, which previously covered NavBoost, KScorer and AI Overviews.
