Trump signs Section 232 proclamation on robot imports; tariffs possible after 180-day talks
lukas_m_ziegler · x · 2026-11-03
President Trump signed a Section 232 proclamation finding that imports of robotics and industrial machinery threaten US national security. No new tariff yet — Commerce and USTR will negotiate with trading partners, and if no deal lands within 180 days, measures including tariffs, quotas, and investment incentives for US production are on the table. Scope covers robot arms, CNC machines, stamping presses and welding tools, and names humanoid and quadruped robots for military uses; drones are excluded.
