'Sharing source code is over': vibe-coded sites get rewritten, not forked
gethackteam · x · 2026-11-03
gethackteam argues that 'sharing source code for random projects on GitHub is over' — starting from scratch is often more efficient than having your coding agent work on a codebase generated by a completely different model and harness.
The attached screenshot shows Karpathy's HackerTube demo: a YouTube-style site restricted to videos repeatedly recommended on HN over the years, built from a single prompt to Claude. When asked if it's open source, Karpathy simply posted the prompt — the artifact is regenerable, so the source doesn't need to circulate.
