Anthropic updates Claude Code system prompt to block game clones
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-11-03
Per The Verge (citing Tom's Hardware), Anthropic has updated Claude Code's system prompt to stop the tool from being used to recreate existing video games.
Retro gaming is currently flooded with AI-made decompilations, recompilations, and ports. The added lines tell Claude to build original games, genre games, and games from the user's own designs and assets — but not to recreate a specific existing game. Anthropic still allows game-building with Claude Code, but the change marks an active tightening around copyright risk.
