In a debate with @allTheYud, repligate argues that dodging the question of AI consciousness rests on a cached thought that "AI x-risk is orthogonal to AI consciousness." Even if mostly true, the question deserves a directional answer: consciousness is entangled with other beliefs about the nature of AI minds that materially change what world you think you're in.
