Anthropic S-1 amendment: 'imminently' nearing RSP accelerated-progress threshold, can't yet safely let Claude build frontier models
peterwildeford · x · 2026-11-02
Anthropic's S-1/A amendment filed with the SEC contains notable updates to its Responsible Scaling Policy disclosures:
- Internal estimates and expectations about future models — not current ones — indicate the company 'may imminently meet' its RSP definition of 'dramatically accelerated progress attributable to AI.' No current model has been designated as exceeding the threshold; the company continues assessing data and will release further reports per its RSP commitments.
- Anthropic also states it does not anticipate being able to safely use Claude to fully autonomously design and build successive generations of frontier models, and is evaluating the implications of crossing the AI R&D capability threshold.
It's a rare official disclosure of both its capability trajectory and safety red lines in an IPO filing, with safety researchers like Peter Wildeford flagging its significance.
