Open-source Mac DB GUI Rowkery ships built-in MCP server with commit-gated writes

A developer released Rowkery, a free open-source (Apache-2.0) Mac database GUI for Postgres and SQLite (MySQL/MariaDB coming), built to fill the gap between DBeaver/TablePlus/DataGrip with AI agents in mind. Now out as a signed 1.0 beta.
It embeds a local MCP server (Rowkery --mcp over stdio, no account needed) with one-click setup for Claude Desktop and Claude Code. Safety design:
- The agent only sees connections and tables you explicitly pick
- Every query is a single SELECT on a read-only session, with row caps and time limits
- Columns marked sensitive return as stand-in values: the agent can count/match but never sees real data
- Writes must be proposed: Rowkery dry-runs the change, shows before/after rows, and nothing is written until you commit in the app
- Every call lands in an activity log
It also supports MCP Apps, rendering query results as real tables and proposed changes as cards inside Claude Desktop, with a no-network bundled view. The author is soliciting feedback on guardrail gaps.
