Yoshua Bengio warns frontier AI labs lack convincing safety plans at Berlin summit

Turing Award winner Yoshua Bengio, opening the Digital Summit in Berlin, warned that frontier AI companies keep pushing model capabilities faster without a convincing plan to make the technology safer — creating collective safety risks from malicious misuse, loss of control and misaligned behavior.
He called for alignment and safety to be treated as required capabilities: strict, independently validated red lines, safe-by-design research (like his LawZero initiative), and urgent international cooperation, citing Germany and Canada as actively charting that path together.
