129 Cyber Incidents in 10 Days: Open Models Already Causing "Billions per Day" in Damages
Afinetheorem · x · 2026-11-02
The viral "Black October" tally counts 129 new cyber incidents in just 10 days, 21 of which would rank among the biggest incidents of a typical year — reportedly causing billions in damages per day. Listed cases include the $6.3B Binance heist (the largest ever, attributed by the FBI to North Korea) and hackers taking over both Ukraine's and Russia's official air-raid alert apps on the same night.
Afinetheorem argues that in cybersecurity, open models at their current capability level are already clearly causing huge problems where "just play defense" is insufficient — and the same will happen in the physical world without better safeguards and KYC for powerful tech.
