Feed Descartes' Four Rules to Your Coding Agent: Yacine Shares His Decomposition Prompt
yacinelearning · x · 2026-11-02
Yacine shared a screenshot of a lecture note on Descartes' method and suggested sending it to your AI agent. The key is rule two from the Discourse on Method: divide each difficulty into as many parcels as possible to solve it better — the classic decomposition strategy.
He also shared his go-to "heartbeat prompt," a garbled-French rendition of that same rule, which forces the agent to exhaustively break down complex tasks before solving them one by one. A 17th-century philosophy handout turns out to be a surprisingly effective task-decomposition prompt for modern agents.
