InflatableBots: University of Calgary's inflatable robots bring dynamic haptics to large-scale VR
lukas_m_ziegler · x · 2026-11-02
University of Calgary's InflatableBots combine mobile robots with fan-based inflatable structures for encountered-type haptics in VR, instead of traditional inflatable shape displays.
- Dynamic multi-touchpoint haptic rendering: 58.5 cm/s horizontal, 10.4 cm/s vertical, adjustable from 40 cm to 200 cm
- Simulates body-scale objects and surfaces in real time across a 3.5 m × 2.5 m space
- Demo scenarios include VR tennis and drums, letting players actually feel strokes
