The 12GB HackerNews dataset behind Karpathy's HackerTube is freely downloadable
vista8 · x · 2026-11-02
The HackerNews dataset Andrej Karpathy used to build HackerTube is freely downloadable from Hugging Face — about 12GB. Someone has already built "HackerBooks" on top of it: a bookshelf aggregating books mentioned on HN, with recommendation/mention counts annotated by an LLM (roughly 85% agreement with human labels), browsable by decade and topic, from programming to sci-fi. The dataset has plenty more project potential.
