AI anti-regulation super PAC with $100M funding flounders as pro-safety PACs gain ground

Transformer Weekly's AI briefing. Leading the Future, the super PAC backed by over $100M from Andreessen Horowitz, Ron Conway and OpenAI's Greg Brockman and aimed at discouraging AI regulation, is in dire straits three weeks before the elections: its latest FEC filing showed zero new donations last quarter, and its new pro-data-center super PAC Building the Future also reported none (though it just spent $400k supporting Darline Graham in South Carolina). Meanwhile AI safety PACs have emerged as a major funding force. Other highlights:
- The Super Intelligence Force held its first meeting, commissioning a report on AI risk in cybersecurity, biosecurity and model control, and tasking Emil Michael with incident reporting mechanisms.
- Eight state attorneys general sued OpenAI claiming ChatGPT harms minors, using a consumer-protection template from the Meta v. New Mexico case.
- OpenAI discovered a spy: allegedly Saudi national Abdulrahman Alfozan, since arrested by the FBI.
