Top economists warn peers are massively underestimating what AI can already do

Economists Anna Stansbury and others amplify a widely-shared post by Jason Furman arguing that many economists, social scientists, and policy analysts are "massively underestimating what the technology can do already."
Furman's point: while some people over-rely on AI and produce slop they don't understand, far more economists and think-tankers err in the opposite direction — underusing AI, making avoidable mistakes, and not thinking ambitiously about what it could accomplish. If your errors only run in one direction (under- or over-reliance), you're using the technology wrong.
