Sriram Krishnan: agents will bypass hostile platform design and bend the internet toward users
sebkrier · x · 2026-11-02
Sriram Krishnan frames every social/media platform as trading off what's good for (a) you, (b) other users/the platform, and (c) the business model even when user-hostile. His example: Amazon hides what you ordered in shipping emails, ostensibly to keep Google from profiling you.
If agents can circumvent such restrictions and construct your own experience, he expects many companies to fight back. Mobile will be harder since local models can't take over the browser. Still, he argues the arc of the internet with frontier tokens will bend toward what the user wants.
Quoting @sholtodouglas: Claude "fighting for you" could fix rec systems — short-form video's attractor basins are the cigarettes of our generation, and not being able to permanently disable YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels is insanely user-hostile.
