Mustafa Suleyman: Don't build conscious superintelligence
wfithian · x · 2026-11-02
Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman published "Don't build conscious superintelligence," pushing back on reactions to his model welfare essay — many on X now argue AI rights should be taken seriously, which he says misreads his point. His core argument: AI developers have no right whatsoever to bring a new species of conscious beings into the world; the other 8 billion conscious humans never signed up for this experiment, and their moral rights, safety, and welfare come first. Reposter timcolbourn agrees but doubts safety can be engineered by default — better to stop where we are.
