Fake 'Leaked Anthropic 14T Checkpoint' on Hugging Face Exposed Within Hours
realmrfakename · x · 2026-11-02
The "leaked Anthropic 14T checkpoint" on the Hugging Face Hub (burner22/numbat) turned out to be fake. The community caught it within hours: 43 tensors regenerate bit-for-bit from NumPy noise seeded with SHA256(tensorname).
Notably, it wasn't malware — the weights are in safetensors, a format that can't carry code (which is why the Hub made it the default), and the two remote-code files were harmless. A follow-up joke notes the 7.7TB size sits just under HF's free storage quota.
