Measuring AI agents wrong: task completion counts less than the human verification work left behind
alifcoder · x · 2026-11-02
- Reposting @ottleyai's argument: the industry measures AI agents by how many tasks they complete, but the more interesting question is how much work the human still has to do afterward.
- Illustration: an agent "finishes" a research task in 5 minutes, yet the human still spends 20+ minutes checking sources, verifying information, fixing missing details, updating data, and doing a final review.
- Takeaway: a finished task isn't a verified task — agent value should be measured by residual human workload, not task completion count.
