Google Labs PM Director: Gemini 4 changed how Google builds products
petergyang · x · 2026-11-01
Peter Yang interviews Jaclyn Konzelmann, PM Director at Google Labs, on how Gemini 4 reshaped product work:
- Writing is thinking: "It shouldn't take someone longer to read your doc than it took you to write it" — AI can be a thought partner, but you stay in the driver's seat.
- Code is no longer a moat: code went from scarce asset to nearly free; if a couple of agents can build it in a weekend, it's probably not durable. The hard part is deciding what's worth building.
- Does your product need a person? As agents take on more work, question whether you need a UI at all; people will still show up to create, learn, or be entertained.
She also covers how Labs picks what to build, keeping AI slop out of docs, and using AI to make games and podcasts with her kids. Full 33-minute episode also on Spotify and Apple.
