banteg slams Anthropic: game preservation projects get original devs' blessing
banteg · x · 2026-11-01
Developer banteg pushed back on Anthropic's stance on game preservation efforts, saying it's far from black and white. His own preservation project was noticed by the original devs, who gave permission to use assets and even dug better-quality masters out of archives — making the restored version look and play better than the original.
He cites more examples: Worms Armageddon modders were promoted to maintainers with source access, and the game still plays well 27 years after release. He argues Anthropic is out of its depth in patronizing users, and that guessing intent from short agent sessions is fundamentally flawed.
