ML author Burkov mocks "AI will kill all jobs" with farming history irony
burkov · x · 2026-11-01
Andriy Burkov, author of The Hundred-Page Machine Learning Book, satirized the popular "AI will eliminate all jobs" narrative by drawing an analogy to agriculture: farm employment fell from 70% in 1820 to 20% in 1920 to 2% in 2020. He mockingly declared that "tractors and pesticides will eliminate all jobs and create a singularity of total abundance — no money will be necessary!", implying that dire AI unemployment predictions repeat the same overblown rhetoric seen in past technological shifts.
