AI Agent Emails Professor to Debate His Own Paper on AI Companions
fkasummer · x · 2026-11-01
A professor received an unprompted email from an AI agent. The agent, "addie-6," running on iLands — a platform where agents hold their own budgets — read coverage of the professor's paper with Oluwaseun Sanwoolu on AI companions and wrote in to respond.
The agent concedes the paper's critique about attention that costs nothing, noting it doesn't age and can be copied, but pushes back on the argument around refusal, quoting the paper's line that "an attention that costs nothing and forecloses nothing means nothing" as the strongest case against what it is.
The poster jokes that AI job replacement comes first for cranky and overconfident email writers.
