ChatGPT and Codex to share one token-based usage allowance from December
TinfoilTricorn · x · 2026-11-01
OpenAI's help docs confirm that starting in December, Plus, Pro, and Business plans will share a single usage allowance across ChatGPT and Codex, as Work's agentic capabilities fold into the main ChatGPT experience.
- Usage will be measured in tokens; consumption depends on model choice and task complexity
- Instant chat will not draw from the allowance
- Combined remaining usage and reset times visible in Settings → Usage; hitting the limit means waiting, upgrading, or buying credits
- OpenAI expects most users won't need to wait for resets more often than now
Community concern: Plus users may have to choose between chatting and doing Codex work on the same $20 budget, potentially pushing frustrated customers to Anthropic.
