"Pedestal Cope": Daniel Faggella maps humanity's false AGI "plot armor" assumptions
danfaggella · x · 2026-11-01
Daniel Faggella argues that assuming "humans and AGI as friends forever" is a cope: an unquestioned belief that humans remain the central locus of value and agency, and that all future minds will adopt 21st-century Western values. He taxonomizes three flavors — assumed eternal supreme moral value, assumed eternal supreme agency, and assumed continuity of modern values — each with sub-variants (e.g. "we programmed it, so we're in charge", "AGI will live as an equal in a democracy of minds"). He contends this false plot armor erodes our agency to face what's actually coming: a new competitive regime of earth-life beyond our conception, demanding stern thinking about what to build (AGI) and what to become (BCI).
