Only a few hundred people truly know B-rep/CAD geometry kernels, and most are retiring

István Csanád of Geometry Labs warns that knowledge of B-reps and CAD geometry kernels is a lost discipline: perhaps only a few hundred people worldwide truly master it, mostly retired or maintaining legacy kernels. Almost nobody learned it in the last 30 years because it "wasn't cool," and the deepest expertise survives only as tribal knowledge among veterans who actually built kernels—raising concerns for AI-driven CAD and geometry modeling.
