Stop treating AGI as a precursor of ASI — they measure different things
Realistic_Stomach848 · reddit · 2026-11-01
A Reddit post argues AGI and ASI are different axes: AGI is about generalization across tasks (even humans aren't the most general entities), while ASI is about raw cognitive skill. Current AI is already fairly general and superintelligent in some domains; extreme generalization isn't required for superintelligence, nor is all-task competence needed for recursive self-improvement.
